BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 19. A total of 7.35 million manat ($4.32 million) is expected to be spent in connection with reconstruction of Karabakh irrigation canal in Azerbaijan, a source in the Water and Reclamation Complex Designing Institute under the State Water Resources Agency of Azerbaijan told Trend.
According to the source, the funding covers the preparation of the relevant feasibility study and project documentation.
The above activities have already begun, the source added.
To note, the Karabakh canal, as the largest main irrigation canal in Azerbaijan, provides irrigation water to up to 115,000 hectares of agricultural land in the Karabakh region and neighboring areas, as well as supplying drinking water to the population of nine districts. Moreover, it supports the water supply for the corresponding arable lands by transferring extra water to the Bahramtapa hydro facility on the Araz river.
On April 15, 2024, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree regarding measures for the reconstruction of the Karabakh irrigation canal.
