ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 25. KazMunayGas (KMG) and Tatneft have started drilling the first exploration well at a depth of 5,500 meters at the Karaton Podsolovoy site in the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
The launch of drilling operations at the Karaton Podsolovoy site
was attended by KMG Chairman Askhat Khassenov, Tatneft CEO Nail
Maganov, and KMG First Deputy Chairman Kurmangazy Iskaziyev.
“We are confident that joint efforts with Tatneft will yield
significant results and contribute to the oil and gas potential of
the country,” emphasized Khassenov.
“The Karaton Podsolovoy site has great potential, which, with
the full support of the government of Kazakhstan, can become the
basis for new successful joint projects,” noted Tatneft CEO Nail
Maganov.
The Karaton Podsolovoy project is being implemented under the
Improved Model Contract, which has significantly increased the
investment attractiveness of complex fields in Kazakhstan.
The search for hydrocarbons at deep horizons involves high technical challenges, including significant depth, potentially high formation pressure, the presence of hydrogen sulfide, and a large thickness of salt deposits. The Karaton Podsolovoy site is located near the large Tengiz field and the active fields of EmbaMunayGas.
Tatneft is one of the largest Russian oil companies. In 2021, it was ranked 7th in the Forbes list of "200 Largest Private Companies in Russia 2021". The company is one of the largest vertically integrated oil companies in Russia, with dynamic developments in oil and gas production, oil refining, petrochemicals, tire manufacturing, gas station networks, power generation, and the development and production of equipment for the oil and gas industry, as well as a block of service structures.
