ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 26. Kazakhstan Railways (Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, KTZ) will build 9 terminals in Kazakhstan by 2027, Trend reports.
The KTZ terminal network is growing quickly in order to fully
use the nation's transit capacity. In addition to increasing cargo
volumes, this expansion will keep transportation costs steady.
KTZ currently runs five terminals, including Xi'an's largest dry
port, which can handle 40 percent of container train cargo. The
business anticipates building five more terminals by 2025 and four
more in 2026.
Cargo traffic has steadily increased annually as a result of strategic measures to proactively improve transit infrastructure. Container transit shipments have increased by 30 percent in the last three years, from 1 million TEU in 2021 to a projected 1.3 million TEU in 2024. Additionally, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) has seen a 25-fold increase in freight quantities.
TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) is a unit of measurement used to describe the capacity of cargo transport vehicles. It is often used to describe the capacity and throughput of container ships and container terminals. The TEU is based on the volume of a 20-foot (6.1 meters) intermodal ISO container - a standard-sized metal box that can be transported by various modes of transport, including road, rail, and sea.
