ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 8. Kazakhstan will develop new specialties in its colleges to support the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP), Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy Almassadam Satkaliyev said at a government meeting, Trend reports.

"Tight cooperation with electrical engineering colleges is carried out by subordinate organizations - the National Nuclear Center and the Institute of Nuclear Physics, which provide the basis for production internships for college students in nuclear specialties," said Almassadam Satkaliyev.

The ministry forecasts that by 2030, the demand for in-demand professions in the energy sector alone may exceed 20,000. These include energy engineers, welders, fitters, gas cutters, electrical fitters, and others.

To increase the prestige of professions in the energy sector, a series of measures are planned in Kazakhstan, including the celebration of professional holidays, an annual 15 percent wage increase for production personnel at energy-producing companies, and more.

To note, in a recent interview with Kazakh media, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev mentioned that in the international consortium for the construction of the NPP in Kazakhstan, the Kazakh side will be the general operator as the project customer. He emphasized that discussions on the NPP construction with the President of Russia included the potential involvement of the "Rosatom" company. Tokayev also highlighted that negotiations are ongoing with a Chinese company, given China's successful experience in building civilian nuclear facilities, as well as the interests of other foreign corporations, including Western ones.
