ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 28. Kazakhstan and
Romania have jointly presented a new thermal power plant at the
Petromidia refinery with Siemens SGT-750 turbines, Trend reports.
Technological testing has started at the new thermal power plant
located at the KMG "Petromidia" refinery in Romania. The launch of
the first turbines was attended by Askhat Hasenov, Chairman of the
Management Board of JSC NC "KazMunayGas," Yerlik Ali, Ambassador of
the Republic of Kazakhstan to Romania, Bogdan Stanescu, General
Manager of the Romanian state company SAPE, and Temel Kotil, CEO of
"Calik Enerji."
The general contractor for engineering, procurement, and
construction is "Calik Enerji," which, in collaboration with
experts from "Rompetrol Energy," will continue testing the
synchronization of the gas turbines with the Romanian National
Energy System and integrate the thermal power plant with the
"Petromidia" refinery in Năvodari. The total investment amounts to
$164 million.
The thermal power generation facility is poised to produce 70 MW on
an hourly basis, thereby comprehensively satisfying the energy
requirements of the "Petromidia" refining complex. The Siemens
SGT-750 gas turbines are being used for the first time in Romania.
The project is being implemented through the Kazakhstan-Romania
Energy Investment Fund (FIEKR), established in October 2018, with
KazMunayGas' subsidiary KMG International (80 percent) and the
company "Societatea de Administrare a Participaţiilor în Energie
S.A." (SAPE, a company that manages energy stakes, nominated by the
Ministry of Energy of Romania, holding 20 percent).
The main goal of the fund is to develop energy projects in Romania.
During his business trip to Romania, the head of KMG visited the
"Vega" (Ploiești) and "Petromidia" (Năvodari) refineries, where he
listened to production and financial reports. Additionally, A.
Hasenov got acquainted with the operation of Rompetrol's gas
stations.
The new thermal power plant will produce 70 MW per hour, fully meeting the energy needs of the "Petromidia" refinery. Siemens SGT-750 gas turbines are being used for the first time in Romania. Over the years of operation, the oil refining capacity at the "Petromidia" refinery has increased to 5.5 million tons per year, with a yield of light petroleum products reaching 88 percent, making the refinery one of the most modern in the region.
This initiative represents a pivotal advancement in fortifying energy collaboration between Kazakhstan and Romania, enhancing energy security, and promoting sustainable development for both nations.
