ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 11. Kazakh company Semurg Invest and UAE-based Freeseas Container Shipping have signed a memorandum of understanding to attract investments for new vessels operating in the Caspian Sea, Trend reports via the Akimat of Mangistau region.
The signing ceremony took place on April 10 at the Sarzha terminal dock in Kuryk seaport, coinciding with the launch of a new dry cargo ship. The vessel is named after Nasipkali Marabayev, a prominent Kazakh oilman and honorary citizen of Aktau. The ship will be operated by a joint Kazakh-Arab shipping company, which is now beginning its operations.
At the ceremony, the Akim (Governor) of Mangystau region,
Nurdaulat Kilybay, congratulated the attendees on the launch of the
new enterprise.
“President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has emphasized the strategic
importance of transport logistics for our country and provided
clear guidance for its development. Today’s event demonstrates that
these objectives are being successfully achieved. Nasipkali
Marabaev has made a tremendous contribution to the country’s
development. His name is known far beyond Mangystau. Our duty is to
set an example of hard work and ethical living for future
generations. I congratulate everyone on this historic occasion!”
said Nurdaulat Kilybay.
The "Nasipkali Marabayev" vessel, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, is designed for transporting dry and general cargo. With a carrying capacity of 7,000 tons, the ship is 136 meters long, 16 meters wide, and 7 meters high. The vessel, built to withstand various climatic conditions, is also capable of navigating open seas and rivers. It is operated by a skilled Kazakh crew of 14.
During the event, Zhanibek Taizhanov, Chairman of the Committee for Railway and Water Transport at the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan, stated that projects to develop the Trans-Caspian International Corridor will continue.
Meanwhile, by 2027, Semurg Invest plans to increase its fleet to six vessels.
Semurg Invest is progressing with the construction of the multifunctional Sarzha seaport terminal in Kuryk. As part of the project, six marine terminals are planned. These terminals will enhance the throughput capacity of the Trans-Caspian corridor, with projections to reach 5 million tons of dry cargo and over 7 million tons of liquid cargo annually by 2030.
