BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 18. Azerbaijan saw a significant decline in the value of goods transported by self-propelled vehicles, amounting to $28.7 million for 8,600 tons of cargo from January through March 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Customs Committee indicates that this represents a decrease of $26.2 million or 1.9 times in value, and an increase of 219 tons, or 2.6 percent, in volume, compared to the same period in 2024 ($54.9 million, 8,400 tons)
Over the reporting period, $1.6 million worth of goods, totaling 671 tons, were exported from Azerbaijan using self-propelled vehicles. This marks a decrease of $166,000 or 9.3 percent in value compared to the previous year, but an increase of 450 tons, or three times more in volume.
In the same period last year, the figures stood at $1.8 million and 221 tons.
In contrast, imports by self-propelled vehicles totaled $27.1 million for 7,900 tons, marking a $26.1 million or nearly twofold decrease in value, and a 230-ton or 2.8 percent decrease in quantity compared to 2024 ($53.2 million, 8,200 tons)
Overall, Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover saw a 24.3 percent increase, reaching $12 billion in the first quarter. Exports grew by 6.7 percent, or $401.75 million, totaling $6.4 billion, while imports rose significantly by 52.6 percent, or $1.9 billion, to $5.7 billion.
In the same period, Azerbaijan experienced a positive trade balance of $722.9 million, which was significantly lower compared to last year, showing a $5.1 billion or 3.1-fold decrease.
