ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 5. Chairman of KazMunayGas Askhat Khassenov announced a 73 percent increase in polypropylene production in the first quarter of this year, which reached 126,000 tons, forecasting 486,000 tons by the end of the year, Trend reports.
According to him, since the end of 2022, a polypropylene production plant based on raw materials from the Tengiz field has been operating in the country.
Overall, with the launch of the plant, Kazakhstan's polypropylene export volumes have increased by 9 times, and the import of homopolymers has decreased from 63 percent to 17 percent.
"Polypropylene prices in the country are at the lowest level compared to neighboring countries. To stimulate further processing, the 'Forsazh' program was launched in 2024. This allows polypropylene to be purchased at a discount, taking into account the individual characteristics of the consumer. To date, 8 'Forsazh' agreements have been concluded with domestic manufacturers of carpet products, polymer corrugated packaging, consumables, and others. The discount ranges from 11 percent to 23 percent," said Askhat Khassenov.
Moreover, it was noted that the increase in polypropylene consumption in the domestic market in the first quarter of this year amounted to 25 percent.
Work in this direction is focused on stimulating the creation and expansion of the production of higher value-added polymer products.
Polypropylene is a chemical compound belonging to synthetic polymers. Due to its exceptional strength and hardness, polypropylene products are used in many industries.
Today, a government meeting is taking place under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov. The agenda of the meeting includes the development of the chemical and petrochemical industries in the country.
