BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 6. Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO), a part of the Azerbaijan Transport and Communications Holding (AZCON), constantly monitors the minimization of the negative impact on the environment of emissions generated as a result of the operation of ships and the activities of coastal facilities.
The data obtained by Trend from ASCO shows that in the first quarter of 2025, from ASCO vessels, the following waste materials were collected and transferred for recycling to certified organizations equipped with experienced specialists and the necessary technical resources, in accordance with signed contracts: 18.78 cubic meters of plastic, 104.33 cubic meters of food waste, 153.91 cubic meters of household waste (including paper, cardboard, rags, glass, metal, and others), 13 cubic meters of operational waste, 79.2 cubic meters of oil residues (sludge), 737.5 cubic meters of bilge water from engine rooms, and 24,089 cubic meters of domestic wastewater.
All the waste was removed beyond the territory.
During the same period, the following materials were transferred from ASCO's coastal facilities to designated disposal or processing sites: 3.7 tons of used molding sand, 263.54 tons of abrasive waste (a mixture of rust, paint, gravel, and sand removed from ship hulls), 19,686 tons of domestic wastewater, 265.9 tons of oil-containing bilge water, 51.24 tons of lubricating oil, 1,105 cubic meters of household waste (paper, cardboard, wood, rags, glass, metal, bottles, etc.), 204.21 cubic meters of food waste, 84.25 cubic meters of polymer and plastic waste, 14.75 cubic meters of oily and oil-containing waste, 30.38 cubic meters of rubber waste, 85.6 cubic meters of operational waste, and 0.06 cubic meters of medical waste.
Over the reporting period, a total of 0.16 tons of paper and 0.05 tons of plastic were sent for recycling.
