TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 14. The Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank will participate in financing four new road projects in Uzbekistan, Trend reports via the Uzbek president’s office.
The new projects include the relocation of the A-380 highway outside the cities of Turtkul and Beruni, the repair of 516 kilometers of roads in the Karakalpakstan and Khorezm regions, and the construction of cement-concrete roads along the Termez-Denau and Syrdarya-Bakht sections.
As part of its broader plans, the government aims to build and repair 7,000 kilometers of public roads, construct 231 bridges, cover 13,000 kilometers of unpaved roads with gravel, build 400 kilometers of cement-concrete roads, and create 72 road service complexes along highways.
Meanwhile, over the past two years, 26 trillion soums ($2.2 billion) have been allocated to these goals, with a total of 40,000 kilometers of roads and 540 bridges repaired. In addition, foreign investments in the sector have increased threefold.
