Kazakhstan’s national atomic company Kazatomprom, the Ministry of Energy of Romania, and Romanian state-owned company SN Nuclearelectrica S.A. held negotiations on expanding bilateral cooperation in the areas of natural uranium supply and the development of the beryllium industry, Trend reports via Kazatomprom.
According to the information, a key outcome of the meeting was the discussion of the terms for a ten-year contract to supply Kazakh natural uranium to meet the needs of Romania's nuclear energy sector.
"It is expected that this contract will strengthen the long-term partnership between the countries and ensure reliable supplies of raw materials for the existing and planned nuclear power plants in Romania," the Kazatomprom statement said.
Particular attention during the negotiations was given to the prospects of cooperation in the beryllium industry. The Romanian side expressed interest in scientific and technical cooperation with Ulba Metallurgical Plant and further exploration of the possibilities for processing beryllium ore from Romanian deposits.
