BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, September 5. Up to this point, the volume of water in the Toktogul reservoir this year has been 1.97 billion cubic meters less than the previous year, Taalaibek Baigaziev, Deputy Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, said, Trend reports.
Baigaziev noted that the forecast by Kyrgyzhydromet predicted a water volume of 109 percent, but currently, it is not reaching 100 percent.
"As we approach the winter, we have a level nearly 2 billion cubic meters lower. When winter ends, the water level will be significantly lower, even lower than last year," Baigaziev added.
According to the Ministry, agreements have been reached for the import of electricity from Russia. Thus, the import of 1.7 billion kWh of electricity from Russia is planned from September 2023 through April 2024.
The Deputy Minister said that negotiations are currently underway for supplies from Turkmenistan. Agreements have been reached on the volume of 1.7 billion kWh, but negotiations on pricing are ongoing.
According to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, the country generated 8.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from January through July 2023, which is 10.4 percent higher than in the corresponding months of 2022 (7.9 billion kilowatt-hours).
