DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 29. Almost 3.5 billion somoni ($329 million) from the state budget has been spent on the construction of the Rogun hydroelectric plant in Tajikistan over the past nine months, President Emomali Rahmon announced during the meeting with the HPP staff, Trend reports.

He stated that in 2023, the government initially allocated 2.6 billion somoni ($244 million) from the budget for the continuation of construction work at the Rogun HPP. To accelerate the process, the government provided an additional 2.6 billion somoni. This means a total of 5.2 billion somoni ($488 million) was dedicated to the project last year.

“For 2024, 2.8 billion somoni ($263 million) has been allocated from the state budget for ongoing construction work. However, to further expand the construction and installation efforts, nearly 3.5 billion somoni ($329 million) has already been spent from the state budget over the past nine months,” he said.

Overall, from 2008 to 2024, the government has allocated more than 42.5 billion somoni ($3.9 billion) from the state budget and other sources to complete construction and restore the stations.

The Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant, a 3,600-MW facility being built on the Vakhsh River, will have six units, each capable of generating 600 MW. Currently, two units are operational, and the third is expected to be fully commissioned by 2025.

According to estimates of the Rogun OJSC, the Rogun HPP is expected to produce over 13 billion kWh of electricity each year. The Tajik Ministry of Energy anticipates that once the plant is fully constructed, it could generate up to 17 billion kWh annually.
