DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, December 19. The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) and Tajikistan's Ministry of Finance have signed a loan agreement worth $16.7 million to support the construction of the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), Trend reports.
The agreement was signed by Tajikistan's finance minister, Faiziddin Kahhorzoda, and KFAED Director General Waleed Albahar.
The total funding provided by the Kuwait Fund for the Rogun project amounts to $100 million, which will be disbursed in six phases, with each installment allocated through separate agreements.
The Rogun HPP, located on the Vakhsh River, is a 3,600 MW hydroelectric facility currently under construction. The project will consist of six units, each with a capacity of 600 MW. Two units are already operational, with a third expected to come online by 2025. Upon completion, the plant is projected to generate over 17 billion kWh annually, significantly boosting Tajikistan’s energy capacity.
