BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 17. The transit of goods through Iran's highways increased by 73 percent during the five months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through August 21, 2024) compared to the same period last year, the reports of Iran's Ministry of Roads and Urban Development said, Trend reports.
A total of 7.8 million tons of cargo was transported on Iran's highways during the five months. During the same period last year, 4.5 million tons of cargo were transported on Iranian highways.
Meanwhile, most of the transit cargo entered the country through Parviz Khan customs (border with Iraq) and Shahid Rajaee port during the five months. Thus, 2.2 million tons of cargo entered the country through Parviz Khan Customs and two million tons via Shahid Rajaee Port.
Furthermore, 237 million tons of cargo were transported on the country's highways over five months. This is 3 percent more than in the same period last year. In the same period last year, 230 million tons of cargo were transported on the country's highways.
To note, 2,793 kilometers of highway, 45,170 kilometers of freeway, and main road are currently maintained in Iran.
