Production capacity of Iran's Bandar Abbas thermal power plant slips

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 23. The electricity production at the Bandar Abbas thermal power plant in Hormozgan province, located in southern Iran, decreased by 20 percent during the seven months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through October 21, 2024) compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through October 22, 2023), the head of Iran's Bandar Abbas thermal power plant Dariush Mahmoudi said, Trend reports.

According to Mahmoudi, the Bandar Abbas thermal power plant produced 2.86 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity during the seven months. However, the figure was about 3.58 billion kilowatt-hours in the same period last year.

Mahmoudi noted that about 2.76 billion kilowatts of electricity produced during the seven months came from the plant's steam units, while 105 million kilowatts were generated from gas units.

He added that during the seventh month (from September 22 through October 21, 2024), Bandar Abbas TPP produced 278 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. Electricity production in the mentioned month decreased by 42.5 percent compared to the same month of last year (from September 23 through October 22, 2023). The plant produced about 486 million kilowatt-hours of electricity during the same period last year. In the seventh month of the current Iranian year, 268 million kilowatt-hours of electricity were produced in the steam units of the plant, while 10.3 million kilowatt-hours were produced in the gas units.

To note, the Bandar Abbas TPP is one of the main thermal power plants in Iran. The power generation capacity of this plant is 1,330 megawatts. The plant has four steam units of 320 megawatts and two gas-fired units of 25 megawatts.
