Iranian ports see growth in essential goods offloads

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 29. The volume of essential goods (wheat, barley, corn, soybean, rice, sugar, and vegetable oil) unloaded in Iran's ports increased by 7 percent during seven months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through October 21, 2024) compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through October 22, 2023).

The data obtained by Trend from the country's Ports and Maritime Organization shows that a total of about 12.4 million tons of essential products were unloaded in Iranian ports during seven months.

A total of 4.56 million tons of corn, 1.43 million tons of barley, and 795,000 tons of wheat were unloaded in Iranian ports for seven months.

Moreover, during the mentioned period, 4.12 million tons of soybeans and 68,400 tons of rice were unloaded in Iranian ports.

Meanwhile, 715,000 tons of sugar and 646,000 tons of vegetable oil were unloaded in Iran's ports during the mentioned period.

Altogether, 440,000 trucks and 13,700 railcars have been allocated for the transportation of necessary products to different provinces of the country in the mentioned volume.

To note, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports to 500 million tons.
