BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 6. The volume of loading and unloading operations in the ports of the Abadan region of Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran increased by 80 percent during seven months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through October 21, 2024) compared to the same period of last year (from March 21 through October 22, 2023), the head of the Ports and Maritime Department in Abadan Kambiz Malekizadeh said, Trend reports.
He claims that for seven months, Abadan ports loaded and unloaded 82,100 tons of oil and non-oil products.
Malekizadeh added that the main reasons for the growth are private sector investment in the ports of the Abadan district and rapid operations.
The official noted that the ports in the Abadan district quickly and safely load and unload cargo, and that the Abadan Oil Refinery continuously loads LNG onto its platform.
Meanwhile, Iran's Abadan region has three main ports: Arvandkenar, Chavibdeh, and Abadan ports.
To note, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports by 500 million tons.
