BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 21. The production at the Sangan iron ore complex in Razavi Khorasan province in northeastern Iran increased by nine percent against the plan during nine months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through December 2024).
The data obtained by Trend from the country's Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation Organization shows that about 652,000 tons of iron ore have been produced at the Sangan iron ore complex of Iran during nine months. However, the production of this complex during the mentioned period was expected to be 597,000 tons.
As much as 81,800 tons of iron ore were extracted from the Sangan iron ore complex during the ninth month (from November 21 through December 2024). Sangan Iron Ore Complex marketed 186,000 tons of iron ore during the ninth month to supply the plants with raw materials.
Sangan Iron Ore Complex is located in Khaf district in Razavi Khorasan province, near Iran's border with Afghanistan. This iron ore complex operates under the management of Iran's Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation Organization.
To note, Iran can produce an average of 100 million tons of iron ore concentrate annually. Iron ore concentrate is used in steel production. The potential of steel production in Iran is about 40 million tons per year.
