BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 18. Iran's crude steel production has decreased by 5.5 percent in the first ten months of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through January 19, 2025), compared to the same period last year (from March 21, 2023, through January 20, 2024), Trend reports via the Iranian Steel Producers Association’s report
According to the report, Iran produced a total of 25.2 million tons of crude steel during this period, down from approximately 26.7 million tons in the previous year.
The report also noted that steel product production in Iran for the same period reached 18.2 million tons, marking a slight decline of 0.2 percent compared to last year's 18.1 million tons.
It was further reported that Iran produced 30.1 million tons of sponge iron during this time, showing a 0.3 percent increase from last year’s production of 30 million tons.
Additionally, iron ore pellet production for the same period totaled 52 million tons, reflecting a 3.4 percent decrease compared to last year's 53.8 million tons.
The report also highlighted a 3.3 percent increase in iron ore concentrate production, which reached 60.2 million tons, compared to 58.3 million tons during the same period last year.
To note, Iran produced 32.1 million tons of crude steel during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024). Iran's crude steel production increased by 5.5 percent compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023). However, crude steel production in the previous year was 30.4 million tons.
Iran's steel production potential is about 40 million tons per year. Iran plans to increase its steel production capacity to 55 million tons by 2025.
