BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 22. A total of 39.3 trillion rials (about $68.6 million) have been invested in various projects at Chabahar Port, located in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province of southeastern Iran, Trend reports via the Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.
In light of this, an event took place today at the port, graced by the presence of Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh, along with a host of other officials.
The funds were allocated to several key initiatives: 3.86 trillion rials (about $6.74 million) were spent on the coastal protection department; 14.3 trillion rials (about $25 million) went toward a 3.6-kilometer-long logistics corridor; 12.8 trillion rials (about $22.5 million) were spent on four search-and-rescue vessels; and 3.75 trillion rials (about $6.55 million) were used to establish a center for the collection and processing of waste generated by ships.
Additionally, 3.54 trillion rials (about $6.2 million) were allocated for the purchase of ten fire trucks, and 877 billion rials (about $1.53 million) were spent on a 12,000 square-meter warehouse. A new physiotherapy center has also been established at the port’s medical clinic, with a cost of 35 billion rials (about $61,000).
According to Iranian officials, around $1 billion has been invested in Chabahar Port over recent years. The port has a cargo handling potential of 8.5 million tons annually and can accommodate ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons.
