BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 17. Iran's crude steel production in the 11 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, trough February 18, 2025) has decreased by 6.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year (from March 21, 2023, trough February 19, 2024)
Data obtained by Trend from the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA) shows that during this period, Iran produced 26.9 million tons of crude steel, while the previous year’s output was around 28.9 million tons.
The report also indicates that Iran's steel product production in the 11 months amounted to 19.9 million tons, showing a 0.4 percent decline compared to the same period last year when the production was 19.8 million tons.
Additionally, it is noted that during this period, Iran produced 31.3 million tons of sponge iron, which is a 0.3 percent decrease compared to the same period last year when the output was 31.4 million tons.
The report further adds that during the 11 months, the production of iron ore pellets in the country reached 56.4 million tons, showing a 2.1 percent decline compared to the same period of the previous year, when production was 57.6 million tons.
However, the production of iron ore concentrate has increased, with the output reaching 67.1 million tons in the 11 months, marking a 6.1 percent increase compared to last year’s same period, when it was 63.3 million tons.
To note, Iran produced 32.1 million tons of crude steel during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024). Iran's crude steel production increased by 5.5 percent compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023). However, crude steel production in the previous year was 30.4 million tons.
Iran's steel production potential is about 40 million tons per year. Iran plans to increase its steel production capacity to 55 million tons by 2025.
