BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 19. Iran's crude steel production has experienced a notable decrease over the past Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), with output dropping by 5.7 percent compared to the previous period (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), Trend reports, citing the Iranian Steel Producers Association.
According to the report, Iran's crude steel production totaled 30.3 million tons in the last Iranian year, a decline from around 33.4 million tons in the prior year.
However, the report also highlights growth in the production of finished steel products, which increased by 2.6 percent, reaching 22.1 million tons, up from 21.6 million tons the previous year.
In other sectors, Iran's sponge iron production increased by 0.8 percent, totaling 33.6 million tons. Iron ore pellet production also saw a modest rise of 0.5 percent, reaching approximately 62.7 million tons, up from 62.5 million tons in the previous year. Additionally, iron ore concentrate production surged by 6.7 percent, reaching 73 million tons, compared to 68.4 million tons in the previous year.
The report elucidates that Iran's steel manufacturing capability persists at approximately 40 million tons per annum, notwithstanding the adversities encountered by the industry.
