BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 23. Iran's imports of non-oil products from Turkmenistan declined by 49.3 percent in value and 47.5 percent in weight over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024).

Data obtained by Trend from Iran's Customs Administration indicates that the total value of these imports amounted to around $19.6 million, with a weight of about 16,300 tons. In the preceding year, Iran imported $38.7 million worth of goods, weighing about 31,000 tons, from Turkmenistan.

The imported goods primarily included petroleum coke, cotton, and fabrics.

Despite the decline in non-oil imports, Iran's total non-oil trade turnover with Turkmenistan for the past Iranian year reached approximately $592 million, with a total weight of 1.57 million tons. This represents an increase of 22.4 percent in value and 13 percent in weight compared to the previous year.

Moreover, Iran's Customs Administration reported that overall, Iran imported goods worth $72.3 billion, totaling approximately 39.3 million tons. This represents a 7.22 percent increase in value, although there was a slight decrease of 1 percent in weight compared to the previous year.

Iran strategically emphasizes the procurement of critical commodities to satisfy internal demand and has instituted specific regulatory constraints on the importation of items that are concurrently produced domestically.
