BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 30. Iran's imports from Uzbekistan have dropped by 29 percent in value and 50 percent in weight during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023).
Data obtained by Trend from the Iranian Customs Administration indicates that the country imported goods worth $88.7 million and weighing around 42,500 tons from Uzbekistan in the past Iranian year. In contrast, the year before, imports were valued at $125 million, totaling around 84,700 tons.
The main items imported from Uzbekistan included cotton, beans, silk, ammonium nitrate, and others.
Meanwhile, the overall trade turnover between Iran and Uzbekistan reached $500 million, with a total weight of around 617,000 tons. This reflects an 8.7 percent increase in value and a 4.5 percent increase in weight compared to the previous year.
Moreover, it should be noted that according to the statistics of Iran's Customs Administration, the country's imports last year amounted to 39 million tons worth approximately $66.3 billion. The import of products increased by 9.77 percent in value and 4.39 percent in weight compared to the previous year.
Iran mainly focuses on importing the products needed by the country and imposes certain restrictions on importing the products manufactured in the country.
