BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 12. Iran is set to increase electricity production at its Thermal Power Plants (TPP) by 4,000 megawatts this summer compared to the same period last year, Abolfazl Asgari, CEO of the Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH), told reporters, Trend reports.
Asgari stated that the total electricity generation at the country’s TPPs is expected to reach 52,000 megawatts during the summer. Last year, the production at these plants was 48,000 megawatts.
He also noted that electricity production at the country’s Hydropower Plants has significantly decreased in comparison to last year. Since the start of the current year, less than 2,500 megawatts of electricity have been generated at Hydropower Plants, while in the same period last year, the figure was 6,000 megawatts.
The official further mentioned that electricity consumption has seen an 11 percent daily increase since the beginning of the year, marking a new record in the country’s electricity consumption.
Iran's electricity production potential previously stood at 93,455 megawatts. The production potential of Iran's thermal power plants is 76,257 megawatts, the production potential of hydroelectric power plants is 12,144 megawatts, the production potential of retail power plants is 2,485 megawatts, the production potential of renewable power plants is 1,450 megawatts, the production potential of the Bushehr nuclear power plant is 1,020 megawatts, and the production potential of diesel units is 408 megawatts.
