BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 12. Iran and Qatar have signed a protocol to establish a green corridor customs system aimed at boosting trade and transit between the two countries, Trend reports, citing the Iranian Customs Administration.
The agreement was signed on May 11 in Tehran by Iran’s Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance and the Director General of the Customs Administration Foroud Asgari, and the Secretary General of Qatar’s Supreme Customs Council, Ahmed bin Abdullah Al-Jamal.
The protocol outlines steps to accelerate customs procedures for imports and exports, improve coordination in the application of customs standards, and eliminate unnecessary regulations.
The administration noted that both countries' officials emphasized simplifying rules for businesspeople and ensuring the implementation of security frameworks to support the development of trade.
To note, the data obtained from the Iranian Customs Administration shows that the trade turnover between Iran and Qatar reached 696,000 tons worth $334 million in the previous Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025). During that period, Iran exported 542,000 tons of goods worth $144 million to Qatar and imported 154,000 tons of goods worth $190 million from Qatar.
