BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 9. Iran has increased daily gas production by 80 million cubic feet (more than 2 million cubic meters) from the Phase 1 of the South Pars gas field (North Dome in Qatar), following the commissioning of the first infill well within the field, Hamidreza Saghafi, the executive director of Petropars Group, told reporters, Trend reports.
Saghafi noted that the first well on the SPD1 platform of phase one was drilled to a depth of 4,640 meters in one of the most geologically complex areas.
He noted that the startup of this well 15 days ago has advanced Iran’s experience in drilling infill wells and will facilitate the drilling of subsequent wells.
The official said that over the past eight months, Petropars’ operations have added 6.88 million cubic meters to Iran’s production potential from the South Pars field.
The South Pars gas field (North Dome in Qatar) is a joint Iran-Qatar gas field. It is estimated that the reserves of this field are 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion cubic meters can be recovered. Iran's share in this field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
Iran’s development of South Pars consists of 24 phases, with production starting in 2002. Currently, Iran produces around 700 million cubic meters of gas per day from the field. To date, Iran has invested approximately $90 billion in its development.
About 33 percent of the recoverable gas reserves from South Pars belong to Iran. While Iran has developed its portion independently, the Qatari side has primarily relied on foreign companies for development.
