BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 10. The number of buses currently linked to the cashless payment system in Baku city has been brought to 2000 units; in 2022 this number was about 1000 units, and in 2023 - 1400 units, the chairman of the Board of the Land Transport Agency of Azerbaijan Anar Rzayev said at today's press conference, Trend reports.
He noted that 77.5 percent of payments made by 476 million passengers in Baku in 2024 were made in non-cash form, and compared to 2023, there is a 17 percent increase in non-cash payments.
“Seventy-nine new bus stops have been installed, and information boards have been installed at 150 bus stops to inform passengers,” the chairman added.
To note, 476 million passengers were transported across Baku city in 2024, which is 28 million more compared to 2023. 154 buses were renewed on 11 bus routes. Two new routes were also created with brand new buses.
Besides, 200 buses were repaired and returned to the route lines, and 165 electric buses started serving passengers. The private carriers brought in 60 new buses, some of which have already been put into operation. It is expected that private carriers will deliver more than one hundred buses in 2025.
