BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. On November 19, 2025, Latvian Ambassador Kārlis Eihenbaums organized a diplomatic gathering in Beijing, which brought together ambassadors accredited in China from various regions, including Asia, Africa, South America, and Europe, Trend reports via the Latvian MFA.
The event aimed to strengthen diplomatic ties and promote multilateral discussions on Latvia’s priorities following its election to the United Nations Security Council.
In his address to the attendees, Ambassador Eihenbaums highlighted Latvia’s commitment as a dependable and responsible international partner, one that actively contributes to global security while championing the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter and the broader international rules-based order.
The Ambassador emphasized Latvia’s determination to play an engaged role on the UN Security Council, with a focus on upholding international law, addressing hybrid threats, and combating the spread of disinformation. He also underscored the importance of preventing all forms of violence in armed conflicts and ensuring justice for the affected populations.
Ambassador Eihenbaums further encouraged practical cooperation within the UN framework, affirming that Latvia would work collaboratively with every member of the Security Council throughout its term.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to acknowledge China’s position as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, recognizing its experience and significant responsibilities within the UN system. Ambassador Eihenbaums expressed gratitude for China’s support of Latvia’s candidacy for the Security Council and conveyed optimism for continued constructive cooperation between Latvia, China, and the broader diplomatic community in Beijing.
The event was part of Latvia’s broader diplomatic efforts to advance its priorities ahead of its upcoming term on the UN Security Council and to enhance Latvia’s visibility internationally. Latvia was elected to the UN Security Council on June 3, 2025, for the term spanning January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2027. Participation in the Security Council will serve as an important platform for promoting Latvia’s foreign policy interests and strengthening its influence in multilateral diplomacy.
