ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 5. Kazakhstan is introducing a ban on the export of ferrous and non-ferrous metals by all types of transport, Trend reports.
By the order of the Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated November 29, 2024, No. 406, amendments were made to the order of the Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated October 21, 2024, No. 370 "On Certain Issues of Regulating the Export of Scrap and Waste of Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals."
According to the order, the export ban includes non-ferrous metals such as: copper scrap and waste; aluminum scrap and waste; lead scrap and waste; used lead-acid batteries; other materials containing lead, cadmium, or mercury; sorted by chemical type and not containing lead, cadmium, or mercury; unsorted and not containing lead, cadmium, or mercury; and other materials.
For ferrous metals: waste and scrap of ferrous metals, ferrous metal ingots for re-melting (chargeable ingots); used pipes, rails, elements of railway track and rolling stock; products made from ferrous metals used for railway or tram tracks, rails, check rails and toothed rails, switch rails, crossings of blind intersections, switch rods and other transverse connections, railway ties, joint plates and pads, wedges, support plates, rail fastening bolts, ties and stretchers, beds, transverse beams, and other parts intended for the connection or fastening of rails; pipes, tubes, and hollow profiles made of cast iron; pipes, tubes, and hollow profiles made of seamless black metals (excluding cast iron); other pipes and tubes (e.g., welded, riveted, or similarly joined), with a round section, an outer diameter of more than 406.4 mm, made of ferrous metals; other hollow pipes, tubes, and profiles (e.g., with an open seam or welded, riveted, or similarly joined), made of ferrous metals; parts of railway locomotives or tram motor cars, excluding used rolling stock elements imported into the territory of Kazakhstan for repair and exported back, as well as those exported from Kazakhstan for repair and returned by road transport; other wagons; hooks and other coupling devices, buffers, and their parts.
To note, according to the order published by the Ministry of Industry of Kazakhstan, the new export bans will be in effect from December 15 of this year for a period of six months. Previously, Kazakhstan had introduced a ban on the export of ferrous metals by road and sea transport.
