The 1st gas unit of the Qeshm Thermal Power Plant on the Qeshm island in the Hormozgan Province (southern Iran) has been commissioned, and electricity production at the Bandar Abbas Thermal Power Plant has been increased, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Energy of Iran.
According to the report, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian attended the opening ceremony via videoconference.
A total of 16.9 trillion rials (about $404 million) was spent to get the two power plants off the ground.
“The Qeshm Thermal Power Plant will have a total capacity of 500 megawatts of electricity. The plant will have two 170-megawatt gas units and a 160-megawatt steam unit. Today, the first gas unit was put into operation,” the report said.
The fuel consumption of each gas unit of the power plant will be about 45,000 cubic meters per hour, according to the report.
"Also, this gas units will produce 8,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day, taking into account the water needs on the Qeshm island," the report noted.
The Qeshm Thermal Power Plant is being built with an investment of 60 percent by Ghadir Electricity and Energy Investment Company and 40 percent by MAPNA Group. According to the program, it will be fully commissioned by the autumn of next year.
According to the report, about 480 billion rials (about $11.4 million) have been invested to increase production of Bandar Abbas Thermal Power Plant.
“With this investment, certain changes were made at Bandar Abbas TPP. Thus, the power consumption inside the power plant decreased, the production capacity of the power plant increased by 115 megawatts, the production efficiency of the power plant units increased by 1 percent, and fuel consumption decreased,” the report said.
Today (July 16), 20 water and electricity facilities worth a total of 26.6 trillion rials (about $635 million) were commissioned in Hormozgan Province (southern Iran).
