ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 17. The government of Kazakhstan has allocated 5 billion tenge (approximately $10.5 million) to support the operations of the Mangystau Nuclear Power Plant, Trend reports.

This decision was formalized through a resolution signed by Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister, Olzhas Bektenov.

The funds will be used to subsidize the energy plant via the regional budget, enabling the facility to prepare for the upcoming heating season and ensure the stable operation of the energy infrastructure.

Several key projects are planned to maintain a continuous production cycle and minimize the risk of equipment failures. These projects include the modernization of boiler units, the enhancement of backup protection and automation systems, and upgrades to the automated control and electricity metering systems.

The Mangystau Nuclear Power Plant is the largest energy complex in the Mangystau region, providing electricity, heat, and potable, hot, and technical water to the region's settlements and enterprises, including the city of Aktau.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan ranks second in the world for proven natural uranium reserves, holding approximately 14 percent of the global total. The country's total proven uranium reserves are estimated to exceed 700,000 tons.

Kazakhstan surpassed the U.S. in uranium production in 2009 and continues to dominate the global market, accounting for nearly 40 percent of the world’s uranium output.
