TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 16. Electricity and gas tariffs for businesses will increase, as Uzbekistan’s planned energy tariff reform comes into force, Trend reports.
The changes will take effect on October 1 of 2023 and will only affect legal entities — tariffs for the population will remain the same.
Electricity fees for Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine, Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine, Uzmetkombinat, and budgetary institutions will stand at 1000 Uzbek soums (8 cents) per 1 kWh, which is 55 percent more than before the reforms.
Other legal entities will have to pay 900 soums (7 cents) per 1 kWh, which is more than the previous index by two times.
Meanwhile, tariffs for gas for Almalyk MMC, Navoi MMC, Uzmetkombinat, and budgetary institutions will settle at 1800 Uzbek soums (15 cents), an increase of 63.3 percent compared to the current price.
Gas fees for other wholesale customers will stand at 1500 soums (12 cents), which is 2.2 times higher than the current index (660 soums for 1 kWh).
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan produced 31.9 billion kW of electricity from January through May 2023, which is an increase of 1 billion kW.h or 3.3 percent compared to the corresponding period last year. During this time, electricity consumption within the republic has reached 27 billion kW, which indicates an increase of 1.6 billion kW.h or 6.5 percent compared to 2022.
In 2022, total volume of electricity produced in the country amounted to 74.3 billion, which is 3 billion kWh or 4.2 percent more than in the same period of 2021.
