BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 15. The use of solar panels will become mandatory for newly constructed buildings with a height of 4 floors or more or a total area of more than 1,000 square meters in Iran, the deputy director of the Iranian Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (TAVANIR) Mohsen Zabihi told reporters, Trend reports.

According to him, a memorandum of understanding in this regard was signed between TAVANIR Iranian Company and Iranian Construction and Engineering Organization in August 2024. This memorandum of understanding was recently handed over to TAVANIR by Iran's Ministry of Energy. TAVANIR has also declared the decision to all distribution companies.

Zabihi added that the MoU stipulates that the implementation process will be regulated by the Iranian Construction Engineering Organization.

“The solar panels will be installed on new buildings and courtyards. If those who want a license to construct the building do not want to do the work, they will not be issued a license to construct the building, and, moreover, the electricity distribution companies will not supply electricity to the building,” he noted.

The official noted that at the same time, the electricity in the buildings will be linked to the country's power grid, and any surplus electricity will be sold to the country's power grid.

To note, Iran currently has a potential of about 1,520,000 megawatts of renewable energy power plants. This figure should be increased to 1,800 megawatts by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2025).
