BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 19. The volume of cargo handled at Imam Khomeini Port in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan Province in the past Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025) increased by 1 percent compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), Abu Talib Gerayloo, Director General of the Ports and Maritime Organization of the province, told reporters, Trend reports.
As per his analysis, more than 48 million metric tons of freight
were processed through loading and unloading operations at Imam
Khomeini Port during the preceding fiscal year.
Gerayloo indicated that the throughput of transit cargo transiting
through the port reached an impressive 3.83 million tons,
signifying a four percent uptick relative to the preceding fiscal
year.
The port authority additionally indicated that a throughput of 4.61
million tons of mineral commodities was processed during the
corresponding timeframe, signifying an incremental increase of four
percent.
Gerayloo reported that a cumulative throughput of 87,600 TEU
containers was processed at the port over the preceding fiscal
year, signifying a substantial 30 percent uptick relative to the
prior reporting period.
To note, Imam Khomeini Port is considered the second strategic port after Shahid Rajaee Port in Hormuzgan Province, located in the south of Iran.
Imam Khomeini Port has the potential to load and unload 60 million tons of oil and non-oil products per year.
