BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 12. The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at the ports in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province in southeastern Iran increased by 2.1 percent during the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), Qasem Askari Nasab, director general of the Ports and Maritime Organization in the province, told reporters, Trend reports.
He noted that during the past Iranian year, a total of 4.15 million tons of cargo was handled at the province’s ports. This included 1.52 million tons of oil and petroleum products, 2.63 million tons of non-oil products, and 948,000 tons of mining minerals.
Askari Nasab also highlighted that 88,500 TEU containers were handled in the province's ports, marking a 33.8 percent increase compared to the previous year.
"In the past Iranian year, 18,200 tons of cargo were transited through the province’s ports, which is a 19.7 percent increase compared to the previous year," he added.
Iran's ports handled approximately 235 million tons of cargo overall. Of this, around 153 million tons were loaded, and about 82.3 million tons were unloaded in the past Iranian year.
