ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 11. Kazakhstan's Atyrau Oil Refinery has significantly increased production of light petroleum products over the first five months of 2025, exceeding its planned targets, according to preliminary data presented during a working visit by KazMunayGas (KMG) Chairman Askhat Khassenov, Trend reports.
Between January and May, the refinery processed 2.39 million tons of crude oil. Output of key light products showed positive growth, notably with diesel fuel production reaching 786,100 tons - 66,700 tons (or 9%) above target. Liquefied petroleum gas production also saw a 12% increase, totaling 105,500 tons.
Gasoline output amounted to 775,200 tons across all grades. High-octane RON-95 gasoline reached 140,800 tons, 16% above plan. Benzene production saw a notable surge, hitting 24,600 tons, more than triple the target of 7,800 tons.
In line with KMG’s strategy to prioritize high-value products, the plant has reduced fuel oil output while increasing the yield of light products, now reaching up to 77% - above the planned level. The refinery’s crude oil conversion rate has also improved to nearly 89%.
Khassenov was also updated on major infrastructure and maintenance projects, including work on delayed coking unit reactors, construction of a new power line and gas turbine plant, and the shift to a three-year maintenance cycle.
