BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 11. Uzbekistan's Uzmetkombinat is exploring the construction of a 150-megawatt thermal power plant and the deployment of a battery energy storage system (BESS) as part of efforts to strengthen the company's energy security and support future production growth.
This was reflected in the statement by Uzmetkombinat following talks between a delegation from Uzmetkombinat led by Chairman of the Management Board Bahodir Abdullayev and the management of CSCES International in Beijing. Uzbekistan's Ambassador to China Farhod Arziyev also attended the meeting.
The central focus of the talks was a proposal to build a 150-MW thermal power plant at the Uzmetkombinat site. The Chinese company presented its proposals for developing the large-scale energy facility.
CSCES International also presented proposals to supply, install and commission a Battery Energy Storage System, which would allow the plant to store electricity, release it to the grid when needed and better manage fluctuations in energy demand.
The two projects could play an important role in strengthening the steelmaker's energy infrastructure. The planned power plant would provide additional generation capacity for the company's industrial operations, while the BESS could improve the flexibility and reliability of its electricity supply.
"The proposed 150-MW thermal power plant and modern battery energy storage system could become important initiatives for strengthening Uzmetkombinat's energy security, improving production stability and ensuring reliable power supplies for future metallurgical capacity," the company said.
The parties also discussed the technical and economic parameters of the proposed projects, the introduction of modern technologies, improvements in energy efficiency and prospects for establishing long-term investment cooperation.
For Uzmetkombinat, securing a more reliable energy supply is particularly important as the company pursues a broader transformation program and plans to expand and modernize its production capacity. Steelmaking is highly energy-intensive, making reliable electricity supplies a key factor in maintaining production and supporting new industrial facilities.
The sides agreed to study the proposals in greater detail, coordinate their technical and economic parameters and continue discussions on advancing the energy projects to the next stage.
