BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 11. Kazakhstan has commissioned 71 railway stations as part of a nationwide program to modernize and reconstruct 124 railway terminals.
This was reflected in the statement, published by the official information resource of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
A meeting on the progress of the modernization program was held under the chairmanship of First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Nurlibek Nalibayev, with participation from regional akims, representatives of the ministries of transport, industry and construction, and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ).
During the meeting, KTZ management reported on the implementation of the reconstruction projects, while governors of Atyrau, Aktobe, Mangystau and Abai regions presented updates on facilities in their respective regions. The remaining railway station projects will continue according to the approved schedules.
"During the meeting, special attention was paid to meeting construction and modernization deadlines for facilities, ensuring high-quality work, and strengthening coordination between government agencies and contractors," the statement says.
Following the meeting, Nalibayev instructed relevant state agencies to ensure the timely commissioning of railway facilities and enhance oversight of the quality of construction and installation works.
Earlier, it was reported that Kazakhstan has opened 70 renovated railway stations since June 2026, with 40 completed in July alone, reaching more than half of the country’s 124-station modernization program.
The modernization program is being implemented by Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) on the instructions of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The latest stage covered 15 regions, with Akmola Region leading with 12 renovated stations and Karaganda Region following with 11, including passenger platforms and infrastructure at Karaganda-Sorting station.
The remaining 54 stations are currently under renovation. The scope of work varies from complete reconstruction to selective modernization. Several stations were demolished and rebuilt, while others received expanded premises, reinforced structures, new concourses and upgraded passenger platforms.
