BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 12. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has launched a capital market development project with the participation of Azerbaijan.

According to ADB information, the program covers 43 countries and economies in the Asia-Pacific region, including Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, and other countries.

The information noted that the project is financed by $225,000 from the Technical Assistance Special Fund.

According to the bank, the program aims to support the development of capital markets in the participating countries.

According to ADB information, from 2015 through 2024, Azerbaijan received $2.53 billion in sovereign financing for 10 projects. Of this amount, 51% was allocated to regional cooperation and integration projects—one of the highest shares among countries in the relevant group. Another 39% accounted for private sector development, 18% climate finance, and 10% digital technology initiatives.

From 2015 through 2024, the bank approved nine non-sovereign projects totaling $963.9 million, with 100% of the financing directed toward private sector development. Meanwhile, 78% of the commitments were related to regional cooperation and integration—the highest among comparable upper-middle-income countries reviewed by ADB.

According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, ADB's direct investment in the country's economy amounted to $2.07 million in the 1st quarter of this year. This figure is $455,000, or 28.1%, higher than the same period last year.
