BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 22. Trade operations between Azerbaijan and Russia reached $1.8 billion from January through April 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Customs Committee indicates that this marks an increase of about $515.3 million, or 39.4 percent, compared to the same period of 2024.
Trade with Russia accounted for 10.78 percent of Azerbaijan’s total trade turnover, making Russia the country with which Azerbaijan has the 3rd-highest trade volume.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan exported goods worth $322.9 million to Russia during this period, which is $2.6 million, or 0.8 percent, less compared to the same period of 2024.
On the other hand, imports from Russia surged to $1.5 billion, up by $517.9 million, or 52.7 percent year-on-year. This growth positions Russia as the top supplier of goods to Azerbaijan.
Additionally, Azerbaijan’s non-oil product exports to Russia increased by $3.7 million, or 1.2 percent, reaching over $321.4 million, representing around 30.07 percent of Azerbaijan’s total non-oil exports and making Russia the leading buyer of these products.
Overall, Azerbaijan’s foreign trade turnover in the first four months of 2025 totaled $16.9 billion, an increase of $3.3 billion, or 24.1 percent, compared to the same period last year.
Exports amounted to $8.7 billion, while imports reached $8.1 billion, marking respective increases of $616.1 million (7.5 percent) and $2.7 billion (48.8 percent) year on year.
Consequently, Azerbaijan recorded a positive trade balance of nearly $651.7 million, which is $2.1 billion, or 4.15 times less than the surplus registered in the same period last year.
