The implementation of energy reforms in Georgia will contribute to the development of electricity trade with neighboring and the EU countries, said the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Trend reports with reference to 1tv.ge.
The course of the reforms was discussed at the meeting of Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava with Secretary General of European Energy Charter Urban Rusnak.
The meeting was held within the Eastern Partnership Investment Forum. The parties discussed current and planned reforms in the energy sector. Special attention was paid to liberalization of the electricity market and the development of legislation in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
As Natia Turnava noted, the implementation of reforms will contribute to the development of electricity trade with neighboring countries and the EU, and facilitate measures to improve energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources.
In turn, the Secretary General of the European Energy Charter gave a positive assessment of the ongoing energy reforms in Georgia.
Georgia has been a member of the European Energy Charter since 1995. The main focus of this international organization is creation of favorable conditions for investors in the energy sector and the protection of foreign investments.
