ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 9. We are capable of increasing wheat exports to 2 million tons annually, and barley exports to 1 million tons, said Aidarbek Saparov, Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, during a meeting with Ali Akbar Jokar, the Iranian Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
In the course of the meeting, the sides discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation in agriculture and outlined potential steps to expand the mutual trade of agricultural products. Minister Saparov highlighted the positive growth in agricultural trade between Kazakhstan and Iran.
"Our goal is to continue boosting bilateral trade in agriculture. A key priority for us is to expand grain exports to Iran. Over the past decade, Kazakhstan has exported over 9 million tons of grain, including wheat and barley, to your market," the minister emphasized.
In response, Ambassador Jokar expressed interest in further strengthening agricultural cooperation and enhancing mutual supply chains.
"We are committed to deepening our collaboration with Kazakhstan, particularly in agriculture. Expanding trade in agricultural products, increasing grain imports, and establishing joint ventures are key priorities for our country," said Ali Akbar Jokar.
Minister Saparov confirmed Kazakhstan's readiness to support all proposed initiatives.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue strengthening their partnership through the Kazakhstan-Iran Working Group.
In the first two months of 2025, the trade turnover of agricultural products between Kazakhstan and Iran reached $72.4 million, increasing by 147.9 percent compared to the same period in 2024. The main products exported from Kazakhstan include barley, oilcakes, small and cattle meat, vegetable oils, corn, as well as vegetables and legumes.
