ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 23. Kazakhstan's production of marketable gas will grow with the start-up of new gas processing plants, and active efforts are underway to support this growth, said Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov at a government meeting, Trend reports.
"Kazakhstan is actively developing geological exploration in the gas sector. One of the main priorities is increasing the volume of proven hydrocarbon reserves. As part of this, the National Company 'QazaqGaz' is working on 15 subsoil areas, which are currently included in the State Subsoil Fund Management Program," the minister said.
According to preliminary estimates, the total gas resources for
all projects amount to about 535.5 billion cubic meters, with a
total value of 200 billion tenge ($386 million).
Akkenzhenov also mentioned that a Qatari investor, UCC Holding, is
involved in the construction of a gas processing plant based on the
Kashagan field.
"Currently, 'QazaqGaz' and 'UCC Holding' are in the final stages of
agreeing on the implementation conditions of these projects. The
implementation of the Karachaganak gas processing plant
construction project will be funded by the Operator," the ministry
noted.
Kazakhstan is also increasing its transit potential. In October 2023, Russian gas transit to Uzbekistan was launched. In the same year, 1.28 billion cubic meters of gas were transported, 5.6 billion cubic meters in 2024, and in 2025, the transit is expected to increase to 7.3 billion cubic meters, with further growth to 11 billion cubic meters per year by 2038.
In 2025, the planned transit of Turkmen and Uzbek gas to China is about 36.2 billion cubic meters, which is the same level as in 2024.
