Uzbekistan and Russia plan to bring mutual trade turnover up to $25 billion by 2024, said the Chairman of the Council of the Federation of Russia Valentina Matvienko after negotiations with the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.
“We see the genuine interest of Uzbek colleagues to deepen economic cooperation. Mutual trade has grown significantly. Last year, the figure was $4.4 billion. The task was set to bring it to $10 billion in the coming years, and by 2024 to reach $25 billion,” she said. According to her, this is "a very difficult task, but it is being implemented."
Matvienko stressed that she was impressed by the positive changes that have taken place in Uzbekistan over the past three years.
“This is a country where serious economic reforms, reforms in the education system, and health care have been implemented,” said the chairman of the Federation Council.
She added that salaries for teachers, doctors and faculty have been increased, new schools and kindergartens are being built.
The head of the Federation Council noted that the president of Uzbekistan once again confirmed the special confidential nature of relations with the president of Russia, as well as his interest in promoting and developing relations between the two states.
