Iran has inaugurated two new fuel storage facilities with a total capacity of 400 million litres, boosting its total fuel storage capacity to 12 billion litres, the Mehr News Agency reported on November 23.
Other fuel storage facilities with a total capacity of 570 million litres are planned to be inaugurated by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2014).
Reserves of gasoline, furnace oil, liquefied gas, kerosene and diesel fuel are sufficient for 50 days, 50 days, 34 days, 60 days and 60 days, respectively.
Iran should boost its fuel storage capacity to 15 billion litres by the end of the Five-Year Economic Development Plan (2015).
Meanwhile, Iran's Natural Gas Storage Company's Managing Director Masoud Samivand said on November 10 that Iran has stored 1.3 billion cubic meters of gas in Sarajeh gas storage facility.
"The stored gas will be pumped into the national gas network as of next month," the IRIB News Agency quoted Samivand as saying.
"Some 300 million cubic meters of gas were pumped into the national gas network last winter," he added.
Samivand said earlier this week that Iran will start injecting gas to the Shoorijeh gas storage facility in the next Iranian calendar year (to start March 21, 2014) , the Tasnim News Agency reported.
"The injection rate of Sarajeh gas storage facility has increased in the current year (which started March 21)," he said.
He went on to note that Iran has identified 40 potential gas storage sites.
