ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, September 23. Cargo traffic by the vessels of the State Maritime and River Transport Service of Turkmenistan reached 2,154 tons from January through August 2024, Trend reports.
The service data show that this figure decreased by 29.7 percent compared to the same period in 2023 (3,062 tons).
The data also indicate that 1,609 tons of cargo were transported by sea (a decrease of 28.8 percent year-on-year) and 545 tons by river (a decline of 31.9 percent).
To note, the revenue of the State Maritime and River Transport Service of Turkmenistan from January through August this year amounted to $99,218, which is 28.9 percent less than from January through August 2023.
Expenses for the reporting period decreased by 15.7 percent, totaling $200,336.
The State Maritime and River Transport Service was established on August 5, 1992, and is responsible for the state management of commercial shipping in Turkmenistan. The service's main activities include the development of maritime and river transport, cargo transportation, and monitoring the safety of fleets and ports.
In response to economic growth and increased export-import cargo flows, efforts are being made from 2019 to 2025 to increase transportation volumes and improve the quality of transport services, including the construction of new vessels to enhance the competitiveness of the maritime fleet.
