ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 5. Kazakhstan's chemical production rose 12.5 percent to 406 billion tenge (about $773 million) in the first quarter of this year and is expected to grow 5 percent by the end of the year, Ersayin Nagaspaev said at a government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, which discussed the development of the chemical and petrochemical industry, Trend reports.
According to Nagaspaev, the share of the chemical industry in the structure of the manufacturing sector currently stands at 4.6 percent, and it has a positive impact on the development of sectors such as agriculture, metallurgy, and building materials production.
“The planned increase in production volume is expected to be achieved through the launch of new projects and a 32 percent growth in polypropylene production, 15 percent growth in sodium cyanide, and a 13 percent increase in fertilizers and yellow phosphorus production,” he noted.
Following the results of last year, the production volume increased by 7.7 percent, amounting to more than 1 trillion tenge (about $1.9 billion). Key enterprises of the industry satisfy domestic demand and develop export potential.
Overall, as the minister pointed out, the sector has shown stable positive dynamics over the past five years, with an average annual growth of 5 percent. According to him, this success is due to the systematic work of domestic producers and support from the government.
