BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 17. Iran is set to install 33 solar power plants (SPPs) in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan in the near future, the Executive Director of the Electricity Distribution Company of Sistan and Baluchestan Mohammad Raisi told reporters, Trend reports.

Speaking with Iranian media, Raisi noted that the total electricity production capacity of these new solar plants will reach 99 megawatts.

These projects will be carried out in collaboration with Iran's Power Generation and Distribution Company (known as TAVANIR) and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization of Iran.

Raisi added that the province already has solar power plants in operation with a combined capacity of about 3,530 megawatt hours.

"The solar power plants in the province produced 18 million kilowatt-hours of electricity during the eight months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through November 20, 2024),” he noted.

Raisi added that a total of 589 billion rials (about $1 million) has been paid to investors in solar power plants across the province since the beginning of this year (from March 20 through December 17, 2024).

Notably, according to Iran’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization, the country's renewable energy-based electricity plants currently have a production potential of 1,317 megawatts, with solar plants contributing 608 megawatts.

This figure accounts for 60 percent of the country's total renewable energy production capacity.
